It is essential for food safety to keep leftover pasta in an airtight container, to avoid air coming in and drying it out. Ideally, this would be a glass container, since plastic ones absorb smells from previously stored food.
There are two secrets to sending pasta (successfully) in a thermos: using short pasta and adding enough sauce to keep every bite moist. This recipe from Giada De Laurentiis calls for both of those, and it has a 5-star rating and more than 400 fan reviews.
The secret, chef Sara Moulton told Oregon Live, is to soak your pasta before you add it to the rest of the ingredients in the casserole. You don't boil it, and you don't add it to the casserole dry.
